The great coffee butter craze of 2017 has officially begun. Not to be outdone by some Japanese coffee margarine-like spread, Durham, North Carolina’s Big Spoon Roasters has just released their new Espresso Nut Butter made with Intelligentsia Coffee’s Black Cat espresso.
The artisanal handmade nut butterists at Big Spoon (and I promise to do my best to not say “Butt Nutter,” but I can make no guarantees) craft some of the finest nut spreads using natural, simple, locally-sourced ingredients. Most butters only contain nuts, sea salt, and a natural sweetener like wildflower honey. The Organic Black Cat Project Espresso Nut Butter is a blend of “fresh-roasted heirloom Mission almonds and Runner peanuts, Muddy Pond sorghum syrup, and sea salt with Black Cat Organic Espresso” that complements the espresso’s “signature flavors of caramel, brown sugar, and dark chocolate.”
No disrespect to Megmilk Snow Brand Company, whose coffee margarine spread enjoyed a few days atop the coffee butter pile, but I think it’s safe to say that Big Spoon Roaster’s Organic Black Cat Project Espresso Nut Butter is the new king coffee spread. The mix of artisanal, locally-sourced ingredients and Intelligentsia are a hard combination to beat.
