Natural & Simple DIY Facial & Face Mask – Self Love Sunday

Happy Sunday, beauties.

Today I was inspired to write a quick and easy post for Sunday – a self love focused post (keeping up with my New Year’s Resolution). Sundays are for facials and big cups of tea.

Step 1: Pour yourself a big cup of tea

I started off with Yogi tea’s Ginger this morning. I love ginger tea in the mornings to get the digestive juices flowing. Not only is ginger quite warming (which is wonderful on cold days like today), but it is also great for preventing the common cold.

Step 2: Facial Steam with Malaya Facial Steam

Facial steaming so darn relaxing. I am loving Malaya Organics’ Rejuvenating Facial Steam.

Herbal steaming aids in clearing out toxins and impurities from the skin, so I love to do this before a facial mask. This steam is a nourishing blend of herbs and flowers that are known for their anti-inflammatory and astringent properties. Some of the key ingredients? Hibiscus flower, helichrysum flower, calendula flower, marshmallow root, rose petals, sage, orange peel, lavender flower, burdock root, yarrow leaf and flower and elder flower. Hello beauty!!!

How to facial steam?

Place a handful of the flowers and herhbs in a bowl and cover with steaming water from the kettle.

Place towel overhead and hold face 10-15 inches above the bowl for 7-10 minutes.

Rinse with cool water.

Malaya Facial Steam at Athropologie.

Step 3: Facial Mask with Wedderspoon Manuka Honey and Oats

One of my favourite at home DIY face masks is Manuka Honey from Wedderspoon plus oats. Manuka honey is so well known in the natural beauty space for, well, almost anything. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, manuka honey reduces redness, can heal burns, scars, congested or inflamed skin and even eczema. Additionally, manuka honey helps to oxygenate the pores to draw out bacteria, drastically improving acne-prone areas.

Simply blend up a spoonful of oats plus a spoonful of manuka honey, and make it a paste on your face. Apply it everywhere, avoiding the eyes and mouth, and be sure to have a cup of tea to put under your face to catch the drips (ha!).

You can leave this mask on for a while, it’s super hydrating and healing. I usually leave it on for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Curl up on the couch with a your journal

The final step (before washing off your face mask, and continuing thereafter) is to curl up on the couch or get comfy at the kitchen table with your journal or a good book – or my favourite, both! Right now I’m journaling around the full moon that just past as well as what I’m excited about for the week ahead.
