Over two weeks in June 2016, Sprudge.com’s intrepid founders Jordan Michelman and Zachary Carlsen embarked on a whirlwind tour of Europe, taping podcasts and having a nice coffee time along the way. So far we’ve taken you to Dublin and Paris, and this week the Coffee Sprudgecast European Tour continues al fresco from the lovely Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg, Berlin. As folks chilled on blankets listening to our broadcast from a vintage boombox, we interviewed four of Berlin’s most intriguing coffee professionals in the shadow of the Frisbee God himself.

Let’s meet our Berlin guests!
Berlin coffee gadfly Cory Andreen, who has his fingers in any number caffeinated pies here in town, most famously as the co-owner of the influential Cafe CK in Berlin, and most recently as the organizer of the Berlin Coffee Festival and the mind behind BrewBox, an innovative new coffee company rethinking the ready to drink market, including flash brewed hot coffee on demand. Cory Andreen is currently devastated over the loss of his coffee tasting spoon—”a spoon that was very important to me for 6 years of my life” with Cory’s name engraved on it—and so if you know anything about the wherabouts of said spoon, please contact @CoryAndreen on Twitter.
Jess Godfrey from the team at Acme & Co., the Wellington, NZ based purveyors of fine cups and flatware. We rank the social media work happening from Acme quite highly, and have a chance to pick her brain on her many travels, her approach to social media, and the growth of the Acme brand (currently on bar at many of the best cafes worldwide). We’re based in Portland, she lives in Wellington, and so what a treat it was to meet in the middle at Görlitzer Park for this friendly chat.
Simone König hails from Bavaria, but has called Berlin home for more than a decade, and has helped dramatically transform this city’s coffee scene. A three-time German Barista Championship competitor and Coffee Masters battler, today she runs Good Spirits Beverages, a specialty coffee cold brew company that specializes in bottling a distinctive ready-to-drink product. They sell Good Spirits’ tasty cold brew around Berlin, both as bottled brew and Cold Brew in-a-box, and so we chatted with her about the benefits of working with a cold brew focused brand, her very favorite coffees to brew cold (she digs Kenyan), and where the Good Spirits brand is going next.
Last, it was our pleasure to interview Kris Schackman, the co-founder of Five Elephant Coffee. Schackman shares the origin story of Five Elephant, hints at the brand’s coming expansion, and even dares to reveal the secret recipe of Five Elephant’s wildly popular cheesecake. Or does he? You’ll just have to listen.

For our last stop on the tour, we’ll take you to one of our very favorite cafes in the world: Scandinavian Embassy, the coffee & dining destination in De Pijp, Amsterdam. There we’ll interview Scandinavian Embassy chef Rikard Andersson, Coffee Company’s Stijn Braas, ReCo Symposium speaker Cerianne Bury, and Sprudge Amsterdam staff writer Karina Hof.
